A comprehensive analysis of civil society issues and perspectives at the World Summit on the Information Society (in French) is now on-line

The first phase of the World Summit on the Information Society in December 2003 marked the end of a long process that started five years earlier. Various analyses have begun to come out evaluating the process and its results.

 

This is the first document to our knowledge, however, that provides an exhaustive portrait as well as a critical analysis of the first phase of WSIS, the issues it raised and the role played by civil society.

 

La communication au coeur de la gouvernance globale introduces the players, the structures (official and unofficial) and themes of WSIS. Including an extensive bibliography, list of relevant web sites and appended documents, this will be a basic reference source for everyone interested in WSIS.

 

We are very pleased to launch this report in a spirit of co-operation and as a contribution to the ongoing attempts to understand and influence the role of communication in global governance.

Une première analyse globale des enjeux et perspectives de la société civile au Sommet mondial sur la société de l'information est maintenant disponible en ligne  

 

La clôture de la première phase du Sommet mondial sur la société de l'information le 12 décembre dernier a marqué l'accomplissement d'un long processus ayant débuté cinq ans auparavant.  Les analyses du Sommet, qu'elles soient sectorielles ou plus générales, se sont rapidement succédées afin d'en évaluer le processus et les résultats.

 

Il n'existe toutefois aucun document, à la connaissance des auteurs, qui prétend dresser à la fois un portrait et une analyse globale du contexte dans lequel s'insère le SMSI, des enjeux qu'il incarne et de la place qu'y occupe la société civile.

 

La communication au coeur de la gouvernance globale cherche à exposer les mécanismes mis en place par et pour la société civile devant avoir un impact significatif sur la gouvernance internationale. En plus de proposer une analyse critique de l'héritage du SMSI, le document se veut un texte initiatique - en y présentant l'ensemble des joueurs, des mécanismes de participation tant officiels qu'officieux et en contextualisant les thématiques, La communication au coeur de la gouvernance globale sera un document de référence indispensable pour tout acteur intéressé par le Sommet. 

 

Le document inclut une large bibliographie, une liste des sites Web pertinents et de nombreux documents de référence en annexe.

 

Les auteurs lancent ainsi le fruit d'un long processus de travail et de recherche dans un esprit participatif et souhaitent à tous une bonne et productive continuation.
