[WSIS CS-Plenary] A little info on Hammermet Hotels

Hammermet is a 'new' city - a resort - and all the hotels are close to the
Medina-Mediteranea which will be the meeting venue. The Manager there
informed me there are 'civil society' priced rooms there and I would think
it's on the net. Last week I spent a few nights in the Hammermet Holiday Inn
and it was fine and a ten minute walk from the PrepCom venue. Really it's
all within walking distance. (The Association of Tunisian Mothers held an
e-Gender Forum there last week).
North Hammermet is, in my view, a place with more character and life, but
its a 10 km drive away. It's the 'old' city. I saw a few oldish, smallish
hotels from the car....but they didn't look like on-line venues, though of
course I may be wrong about that.
Since the Tunisians are offering subsidised hotel rates (as well as full
hotel subsidies for the CS Bureau, a selection of people from LDC'S and the
African Civil Society caucus), I would say that they will be negotiating
with particular hotels.
So I hope that we will be informed shortly about which ones. I would say
though, don't worry - the Tunisian secretariat will be making block bookings
and will transfer registrants from the airport to Hammermet, which is about
an hour by road.
June is I understand the beginning of the tourist season, but there are so
many hotels and its not peak of season so it will be fine.
All will be clarified......
