Chers Collègues,

Veuillez trouver ci-dessous les dernières nouvelles concernant le 
processus préparatoire de la deuxième phase du SMSI.

***Bureau intergouvernemental

Un Bureau intergouvernemental provisoire a été mis sur pied pour la 
deuxième phase du Sommet. Le Bureau intergouvernemental se compose comme 
suit :

Groupe Afrique: Egypte, Kenya, Libye, Mali, Sénégal, Zambie;
Groupe Asie: Bangladesh, Chine, Japon, Pakistan, République de Corée, 
Arabie Saoudite;
Groupe Europe centrale et orientale: Arménie, Bélarussie, Hongrie, 
Lettonie, Russie, Serbie-Monténegro
GRULAC: Argentine, Brésil, Mexique, Nicaragua, Trinidad et Tobago, 
Venezuela;
WEOG: Canada, France, Grèce, Norvège, Espagne, Etats-Unis d’Amérique
Membres ex-officio : Tunisie, Suisse

Total: 32 pays

*** Nomination à la Présidence du Bureau intergouvernemental : retrait 
de la candidature du Mali

Compte tenu que des consultations sur la Présidence du PrepCom pour la 
phase de Tunis sont en cours depuis le mois de janvier, sans résultat, 
et afin de ne pas bloquer les autres candidatures, le Mali a décidé de 
ne pas présenter de candidat. La candidature est ouverte à des 
représentants du Nord.

M. Adama Samassékou a remercié tous les membres du Bureau, les 
gouvernements de la Suisse et de la Tunisie, l’UIT et toutes les 
organisations internationales pour leur contributions au processus 
préparatoire de la première phase du SMSI. Les membres du Bureau ont 
chaleureusement remercié M. Samassékou pour son important travail et 
pour son dévouement personnel au SMSI.

***Réunion préparatoire

Le Bureau intergouvernemental, lors de sa réunion du 31 mars a décidé de 
la tenue d’une réunion préparatoire (PrepCom) comme suit :
- La réunion se tiendra pendant 3 jours
- Les dates retenues sont du 24 au 26 juin 2004
- Elle aura lieu en Tunisie (Hammamet)
- Sa nature et son agenda seront discutés lors de la prochaine réunion 
du Bureau.

second phase of the WSIS.

***Intergovernmental Bureau

An interim intergovernmental Bureau has been established for the second 
phase of the Summit. This Bureau is comprised of the following members :

Africa Group: Egypt, Kenya, Libya, Mali, Senegal, Zambia;
Asia Group: Bangladesh, China, Japan, Pakistan, Republic of Korea, Saudi 
Arabia;
Central and East European Group: Armenia, Belarus, Hungary, Latvia, 
Russia, Serbia-Montenegro
GRULAC: Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Nicaragua, Trinidad et Tobago, Venezuela;
WEOG: Canada, France, Greece, Norway, Spain, United States of America
Members ex-officio : Tunisia, Switzerland

Total: 32 pays

*** Nomination to the Presidency of the Intergovernmental Bureau: 
withdrawal of Mali candidature

Given that the consultations on the Presidency of PrepCom of the Tunis 
phase were ongoing since January without results, and in order not to 
block any other candidatures, Mali decided not to submit a candidate. 
Candidature is open to representatives from the North.

Mr. Adama Samassékou thanked all the members of the Bureau, the Swiss 
and Tunisian government, ITU and all other international organisations 
for their contributions to the preparatory process of the first phase of 
WSIS. On their side, the Bureau members thanked warmly Mr. Samassékou 
for his great work and personal dedication to the WSIS.

*** Preparatory meeting

During the intergovernmental Bureau meeting of 31 March, the following 
decision was taken with regards to the next preparatory meeting (PrepCom) :
- it will have a duration of three days;
- it will be held from 24 to 26 June 2004
- it will take place in Tunisia (Hammamet)
- its nature and its agenda are to be discussed again at the next 
meeting of the Bureau.
