Geneva, 23 September 2005
What: Forum Business & Strategies Session 3: Digital Inclusion
When: Wednesday, 5 October, 2005, 15:00—16:20
Where: Xangó 1 room, Bahia Convention Centre, Salvador da Bahia, Brazil
Why: In the last decade, the level of access to basic telephony and
advanced telecommunication services in the Americas has accelerated,
but penetration still falls short of developed countries. Government
strategies that include information and communication technologies as
a means to achieve social and economic development goals need to be
based on the principle of inclusion. What types of strategies can be
implemented to promote digital inclusion? Which ICTs work best, based
on current infrastructure and the needs of the Americas region?
Who: Keynote speakers for this session:
His Excellency Mr José Ortiz Rivera, Ministro, Ministerio de
Transportes y Comunicaciones, Peru
Mr Clovis José Baptista Neto, Executive Secretary, Inter-American
Telecommunication Commission, CITEL
Confirmed panelists include:
Ms Soraya Solabarriets, Secretaria General, Comisión Nacional de
Telecomunicaciones (CONATEL), Honduras
Mr Rafael Esmeraldo Luchéis Ramacciotti, Secretary Science,
Technology and Innovation, State of Bahia, Brazil
Professor Peter Yu, Associate Professor of Law, College of Law,
Michigan State University, United States
Dr Gillian Marcelle, Principal Consultant, Technology for
Development, Trinidad and Tobago
