[WSIS CS-Plenary] Grassroots Caucus at PrepCom 3

OneWorld South Asia on behalf of Grassroots Caucus  will be organising
two side events at PrepCom 3 to further stregthen the grassroots voices
at WSIS. 
 
SIDE EVENT 1 
MISSING !! : GRASSROOTS VOICES
Film Screening
 
Date : 27th  September 
Venue: Room XXII
Time: 14:30 - 15:30
 
Grassroots voices have always been missing from policy making fora.  The
film screening followed by a discussion will trace their journey from
being merely silent specatators to actively voicing their issues and
concerns. However, there still remains a lot of ground to be covered in
this regard. How do the people vioce their concerns to the policy
makers? What would be the media to capture and disseminate their voices?
Even if these vioces are communicated, are they really heard?

Redefining ICTs : From Pilot Syndrome to Up-Scaling ICT Initiatives

The Grassroots Perspective

 

Date: 28th September 2005

Venue: Room XXIII

Time: 1500hrs - 1630 hrs

 

To replicate pilot projects that have worked well in a small community
at the national level would need not only excellent planning, but also
support from a wide range of players. It would mean active involvement
of the government, private enterprise and most importantly the
grassroots communities for it to positively impact the quality of lives
at the grassroots. 

 

It is in this context that OneWorld South Asia is organizing a Panel
Discussion that seeks to explore the path that needs to be charted to
move from the pilot syndrome to up-scaling ICT initiatives.  

 

The discussion will seek to showcase examples of projects that are
currently been undertaken as a pilot. People from the grassroots
communities will come forth to share their experiences of using ICTs
within the communities to bring about positive change in the lives of
people.  The panel will discuss the possible ways to move ahead of the
pilot syndrome.
