Using Creative Commons to Licence Publicly-funded Knowledge
THETHA - THE SANGONeT ICT DISCUSSION FORUM
The Southern African NGO Network (SANGONeT), in collaboration with the Association for Progressive Communications (APC), is hosting a Thetha on 24 May 2005 to discuss whether Southern African organisations should use Creative Commons to licence the information that they produce. The Thetha will occur in the same week (25-27 May) as the launch of Creative Commons South Africa and an international conference hosted by the Link Centre entitled "Commons-sense: Towards an African Digital Information Commons".

Informal Consultations on WSIS Implementation Mechanism Meet Outcome

After some welcoming remarks, Chairman Yuri G. Grin briefly presented the role of the ITU Council WG on WSIS, mandated to make proposals to the Plenipotentiary Conference on the ITU inputs to the WSIS process. He also asserted that the work of the ITU is strongly rooted in a spirit of multi-stakeholder partnership, gathering 189 member states, but also private companies, academic institutions and some NGOs.

Tunisia: Serious Human Rights Concerns Remain, Say Watchdogs
The Tunisian government is failing to take effective action to stop human rights abuses in the country, putting its status as host of the November 2005 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in question, says the Tunisia Monitoring Group (TMG), a coalition of 13 IFEX members that monitors free expression violations in the North African country.
