[WSIS CS-Plenary] WGIG issue paper revision process?

Hello Martin,

As noted previously, the papers were just an exercise to identify some of
the issues, actors and mechanisms involved, and laterally to get the group
writing and collaborating in an area the secretariat thought constituted
'low hanging fruit.' There are no plans to revise the papers, they are
just inputs that can be drawn on as need be when we move toward working on
the actual report.

I think those of us from CS who are on WGIG are aware of the diverse
perspectives that have been offered here on the list, and I think we have
broadly conveyed those into the WGIG discussions, most notably with respect
to what FLOSS people have said. If everyone wanted to try to organize a
more systematically aggregated approach by, say, agreeing on five to ten
bottom line positions, that would be much easier for us to pass along. I
suspect that reaching a strong and broad consensus in the few days before
the meeting on a short list would be difficult; efforts to have such a
conversation on the IG caucus list faded away rather quickly. But we could
try again.... And there are of course other ways to weigh in, e.g. provide
written comments on the issue papers using the template, participate (if you
are able to attend) in the open consultations and related CS meetings during
the prepcom, etc.

Best,

Bill
