Assistance to NGO's
As part of its policy on hosting NGOs, the government of the Canton of
Geneva has appointed an "NGO coordinator" to assist NGOs which wish to
set up their headquarters in Geneva. The Geneva Welcome Centre - route
de Ferney 106, CH - 1211 Geneva 20; tel. (+41) 022 918 02 70, fax (+41)
022 918 02 79 - can provide NGOs with all the information they need in
this respect.
NGOs and their staff have free access to the services provided by the
Geneva Welcome Centre. The aim of the Centre is to encourage the social
and cultural integration of foreigners posted to Geneva and to
facilitate their administrative assimilation by providing help in
dealing with the authorities and the people of Geneva (finding premises,
accommodation, practical information concerning everyday life in Geneva,
etc.)
NGO's delegates travelling to Geneva for an international conference may
take advantage of the free services offered by the Welcome Centre for
Delegations and NGO's : chemin William Rappard 31, CH - 1293
Bellevue/Geneva, tel. (+41) 022 959 88 55, fax (+41) 022 959 88 51,
e-mail: info at mandint.org. The aim of the Centre is to facilitate the
participation of NGO delegates in international conferences taking place
in Geneva, and to provide a location where delegates from different
regions and different fields can meet and exchange views. The centre is
particularly meant for the use of delegates from developing countries
and offers services at various levels: inexpensive accommodation, office
infrastructure, support services, etc.

Subject: [WSIS-CT] One question - Urgent
Dear friends,
I am writing you from Iran, from the Institute for
Women's Studies and Research, a non-governmental
organization in Special Consultative Status to ECOSOC.
It is so important for us to be in Geneva, and
therefore, four active women are going to attend at
the meetings of PrepCom3 in Geneva. When they were
arranging their programs, they had a limited fund for
their accomodation in Geneva. Now that they have
bought their tickets, and made themselves ready, they
have been informed that they do not have the fund. Now
they are facing with this problem they are going to
leave the country next week, but they do not have any
accomodation in Geneva.
I am just asking you - all list members - especially
those who are based in Geneva - to help us and to show
if there is any possibilities for these four women
from the Institute to be accomodated in Geneva, at
least for one week. Is there any contact that might
be helpful to facilitate such representation in
Geneva?
I hope that you can give us good guidelines what to
do?
Best regards
Saeid N. Neshat
