In October 2003 DaimlerChrysler and UNESCO with the partnership of World
Federation of Engineering Organisations WFEO and International A2ssotiation
of Universities IAU have launched the "Mondialogo Initiative, to promote
intercultural dialogue and knowledge exchange. The project involves 3 main
pillars: the "Mondialogo School Contest", the "Mondialogo Engineering Award"
and the "Mondialogo Internet Portal". 

The "Mondialogo Engineering Award" aims to encourage young engineers from
6,000 universities world wide to develop sustainable projects focused on
Millennium Development Goals especially those related with poverty
eradication and sustainable development. An international jury will select
the top entries and decide on the final 20 winners of  "Mondialogo
Engineering Award".  In March 2005, each of them will received an award of
15,000 Euros. The "Mondialogo Internet Portal" www.mondialogo.org has been
created to become the main meeting point where everybody can consult
information on andpost their projects.  

The student teams are invited to develop their ideas and solutions in the
form of project proposals. The overall goal of the proposals should be: to
develop practical solutions that demonstrate excellence in the application
of engineering, by addressing basic needs in such fields as:  water supply,
sanitation, affordable housing, transport, communication, food production
and processing, health services and the technological infrastructures of
developing countries. 

By the end of next week over 6,000 universities will receive a special
information brochure, a letter to the chancellor and posters, concerning the
"Mondialogo Engineering Award". These materials are also available on
www.mondialogo.org/  

We hope that information about Mondialogo Engineering Award will reach
maximum numbers of students, particularly those from Developing countries.

site, giving maximum publicity.
