on the 1st July 1949. 60 years later to the day, this IER event will discuss
why Convention 98 on the Right to Organise and to Collective Bargaining remains
relevant to UK workers: the proportion of the British workforce covered by
collective bargaining has dwindled to less than a third while the gap between
the richest and the poorest has grown; anti trade union laws continue to
restrain trade union activity while weaknesses in our recognition procedures
deny trade unions a voice at work; and recent developments in Europe –
including decisions of the European Court of Justice – threaten to
further undermine the terms and conditions of UK workers unless we rebuild and
re-instate the universal coverage of collective bargaining in the UK. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
