<font size=3>As you know, John Hendy QC, Chair of IER worked closely with
the TUC in drafting the Trade Union Freedom Bill. The Institute was
therefore pleased to work in association with the United Campaign to
promote the Rally of Parliament, organised in support of the Second
Reading of the Bill on 19th October. <br><br>
The Rally was a great success and below is a thank you note from the
United Campaign. A report of the Rally, including pictures, will shortly

NATIONAL RALLY FOR A TRADE UNION RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS BILL <br>
18 October 2007<br><br>
Thank you to all who supported and attended the National Rally for
Trade<br>
Union Freedom on the 18 October.<br><br>
I am sure you will agree the Rally and demonstration was a great
success<br>
with police estimates at 700 people and both the main room and the<br>
overspill rooms full. The speakers emphasised the various aspects of
the<br>
campaign for a Trade Union Freedom Bill and were very well received
with<br>
several receiving a standing ovation.<br><br>
Can we apologise for the length of time it took to get through
security,<br>
this is often a problem when a lobby takes place in parliament. As
you<br>
will appreciate, the focus of this event was a private members bill
and<br>
therefore it was appropriate to have it in parliament. However<br>
consideration is being given to the next event being held outside<br>
parliament.<br><br>

In spite of the lack of progress on Friday in the Commons, the Trade
Union<br>
Rights and Freedoms Bill has not gone away and indeed we now have
131<br>
signatures for EDM 532. The United Campaign will continue to campaign
for<br>
the Trade Union Freedom Bill and will be in contact soon with a new<br>
newsletter and details of forthcoming events.<br><br>

to<br>
fight to reclaim our rights.<br><br>
